When is the Best Time to Visit Kerala?
Kerala, known as God’s Own Country, is a year-round destination. But each season offers a different experience. Here is our month-by-month guide to help you plan the perfect Kerala trip.
October to February – Peak Season (Best Overall)
This is the most popular time to visit Kerala. The monsoon has ended, weather is pleasant (22-32 degrees), and all tourist attractions are open.
- Best for: Backwater cruises, beach holidays, hill station visits
- Highlights: Onam festival (if visiting in September-October), Christmas celebrations in Kochi
- Tip: Book hotels and taxis 2-3 weeks in advance as this is peak season
March to May – Summer Season
Kerala gets hot in the plains (30-38 degrees) but hill stations like Munnar and Wayanad remain cool (15-25 degrees). Great time for budget travelers as rates are lower.
- Best for: Hill station escapes, Munnar, Wayanad, Vagamon
- Highlights: Vishu festival (April), fewer crowds at popular spots
- Tip: Carry sunscreen and stay hydrated. Hill stations are 10-15 degrees cooler
June to September – Monsoon Season
Kerala transforms into an emerald paradise during monsoon. Heavy rains but incredibly beautiful. This is the best time for Ayurveda treatments.
- Best for: Ayurveda retreats, photography, waterfall visits, budget travel
- Highlights: Athirappilly Falls at full force, lush green landscapes
- Tip: Some hill roads may have landslides. Check road conditions before traveling to Munnar or Wayanad
